 Meet Holly,


Holly is the GOLD Maldives 2022 Team Leader!

Holly has been a member of Girlguiding since she a Rainbow and is now an assistant Brownie leader in Exeter!

Holly has done a fair bit of travelling in and out of Girlguiding, and she loves the challenges and unexpected experiences that travel can give you!
Holly was part of Team GOLD Rwanda 2019 (hi GOLD Rwanda 2019👋🏻).

Holly’s favourite food is anything mediterranean and her favourite colour is yellow.

Holly is excited for the following few months and to have the opportunity to lead our fantasic team delivering training sessions with the Maldives Girl Guides Association!


The next member of GOLD Team Maldives 2022 is Gwen!



Gwen is GOLD Team Maldives 2022 Brand Coordinator!

Gwen has been in Girlguiding since she was a Rainbow and has worked her way through all the sections! Gwen is currently a Leader in Training for a Guide unit in South Wales and wants to expand to Rainbows too.

Gwen is about to start her Queens Guide award!

Gwen has been on unit trips as a Guide to Switzerland and Holland!

Gwen’s favourite foods include toad in the hole and fried rice and her favourite colour is also yellow!

Kara is our Finance and Logistics Coordinator.

Kara has been in Girlguiding for roughly 20 years and started off as a Rainbow. Kara’s current roles include being an Assistant Leader, Lead Volunteer for Youth Panels and West Glamorgans Inspire Coordinator.

Kara has travelled to Norway, France and Peru with Girlguiding.

 Introducing the world to Tas! Tas is the First Aider for Team Maldives 2022. Tas has been in Girlguiding for 7 years. Tas got into volunteering at her local Brownie unit in 2015 and is now a Rainbow Leader for a unit she opened 5 years ago. Tas absolutely loves volunteering! The Maldives will be the first international trip Tas has been on through Girlguiding and she is hoping it will be the first of many! Tas loves the colour yellow as it is so bright and summery! Being from a Jamaican background, Tas enjoys most West Indian cuisines from jerk chicken to ackee and saltfish! Meet Georgie, who will be our teams Training and Resources Coordinator. Georgie has been in Girlguiding since she was a Rainbow and has been through all the sections and is now an adult Leader! Georgie is currently a Guide Leader in both Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Georgie has had a range of International experiences with Girlguiding, with a few favourites being travelling to Canada, Iceland and Switzerland...

A very warm welcome 💛🇲🇻

As we exited baggage claim we were enthusiastically welcomed into the Maldives by many of the lovely MGGA members. They were holding a banner that said “Maruhaba” which means welcome in Dhivehi. We were given wonderful gift bags and delicious coconuts. Once we had all changed our money and sorted out SIM cards it was time to head into Male.  A short trip over the bridge into the city and we were soon at our accommodation. We were given a tour of our accommodation, met more members and were given some local treats  😋   Later on in the day we had a meeting ExCo members and we experienced “short eats”. This included traditional Maldivian snacks such as pink sago and pancakes!  🥞 Soon after that a few members took us on a brief tour around Male to see some wonderful sights, we even gate crashed a four year olds Frozen party  ❄️  (with permission  😆 ).    For dinner this evening, we were treated to many Maldivian delicious meals… best to say we...

Our time in Laamu Atoll 🌊

  22/8/22 ~ Our arrival to Maavah   We had a busy day that consisted of, having brunch at the airport and catching flights and ferries to reach our first destination, Maavah. We received such a warm welcome. As we arrived to Kadhdhoo airport we were greeted by MGGA members who gave us all sun hats made from woven palm leafs.  When we arrived in Maavah, some of the girls’ parents had created a palm leaf woven fish welcome arch which said “welcome GOLD team”. We were each given a coconut and Maavah school plaques. To our surprise, for our evening tea we were joined by over 50 Stars, Little Maids, Guides and Leaders. It was lovely getting to know the girls in a relaxed environment, and we couldn’t wait to start training with them.
