Our time in Laamu Atoll 🌊

 22/8/22 ~ Our arrival to Maavah 

We had a busy day that consisted of, having brunch at the airport and catching flights and ferries to reach our first destination, Maavah. We received such a warm welcome. As we arrived to Kadhdhoo airport we were greeted by MGGA members who gave us all sun hats made from woven palm leafs. 





When we arrived in Maavah, some of the girls’ parents had created a palm leaf woven fish welcome arch which said “welcome GOLD team”. We were each given a coconut and Maavah school plaques.




To our surprise, for our evening tea we were joined by over 50 Stars, Little Maids, Guides and Leaders. It was lovely getting to know the girls in a relaxed environment, and we couldn’t wait to start training with them. We finished off the evening with a lovely beach BBQ.




 

23/8/22 ~ Day 1 of training and arrival to Maabaidhoo


Today was a very busy day. We had back to back training with Stars, Little Maids and Guides for the first half of the day! Maavashu school were so welcoming and generous throughout the day. As a team we loved spending the day training with the girls and eating our meals with them. 





After a busy morning it was time to head to Maabaidhoo via speed boat. It was safe to say… it wasn’t the best journey for some!🙈 When we arrived, we were greeted by many girls, who were all dressed in traditional Maldivian dresses and we were even given a performance by some Guides! The evening finished with a fun filled session with the Guides.













24/8/22 ~ Day 2 of training 


Our first full day in Maabaidhoo was very relaxed. We enjoyed some rest time and then we were treated to a tour of the island. The island was beautiful, there were lots of swings, beaches and bridges connecting each part of the island. 






After lunch we had our sessions with the Stars and Little Maids, and enjoyed some short eats with them. Once we wrapped up our sessions we visited a beach, soon to be caught in a torrential downpour, and had to rush back to our accommodation… it was quite the experience!😆 







For our evening entertainment we had a fun night with all the young members and leaders. During these festivities we were taught traditional Maldivian dances, played games, sang songs and ate dinner!






25/8/22 ~ Our final day in Laamu Atoll


Today was our final day in Laamu Atoll. We had an amazing time and were sad to be leaving! We headed back to Gan for a quick sightseeing trip, which included fairy pond, enjoyed lunch and caught our flight back to Male shortly after. 






Once we arrived back in Male, we visited Hulhumale and were treated to a lovely evening on a yacht! Thank you to everyone who was involved in the past few days it made our experiences so special.

A very warm welcome 💛🇲🇻

As we exited baggage claim we were enthusiastically welcomed into the Maldives by many of the lovely MGGA members. They were holding a banner that said “Maruhaba” which means welcome in Dhivehi. We were given wonderful gift bags and delicious coconuts. Once we had all changed our money and sorted out SIM cards it was time to head into Male.  A short trip over the bridge into the city and we were soon at our accommodation. We were given a tour of our accommodation, met more members and were given some local treats  😋   Later on in the day we had a meeting ExCo members and we experienced “short eats”. This included traditional Maldivian snacks such as pink sago and pancakes!  🥞 Soon after that a few members took us on a brief tour around Male to see some wonderful sights, we even gate crashed a four year olds Frozen party  ❄️  (with permission  😆 ).    For dinner this evening, we were treated to many Maldivian delicious meals… best to say we...

Training with the Little Maids and Guides

14/08/2022 ~ Training day 1. A 6:45 alarm so a bright and early start to the day. For todays sessions we had Little Maids and Guides. To all our U.K. Guiding sisters, Little Maids are ages 7-11 and Guides are 12-17. This morning we held our session at Ahmadiyya International School. We had approximately 80 Little Maids and the training session focused on ‘leadership, confidence and decision making’.  We started our training by leaving the school’s beautiful gallery and being greeted by 2 rows of Little Maids handing us individual white roses while we entered the hall. One Little Maid opened the session with an Islamic prayer.  The training started and the girls were a little quiet at first but very quickly started chatting and talking all about Guiding. We taught the girls the call and response “Is everybody happy?” They seemed to enjoy it and we found it to be a very helpful way to get their attention quickly.
